My last few outings the engine has been sounding louder so thought I would check it out.
Today I was fixing the exhaust leaks I found, about 4 places!
I noticed a crack in my Vintage Speed exhaust where the tail pipe bracket is.

My welding question:
The thing is stainless steel and I don't have the means to do it here at home with my welder.
The crack is about 2 1/2 " and I don't want it to get worse. Right now it is a tight crack.
Can anyone recommend a place or do one of you have the means to weld stainless steel??

Mucho thx!

You sure you can't weld stainless with normal mig wire?
The only issue is that the weld won't be stainless and could rust I suppose.

I would say talk to John up the street, but he just had his hip replaced in January and is probably not in shape to do any welding.
If you take it off you can go to Jerry's welding in Kearney Mesa, 858-565-4800, 7637 Ronson Rd. SD, CA, 92111.

Have you contacted "Vintage Speed"? I think they should know about the problem and send you a new one.

FWIW, I've welded on my SS Mondo muffler with regular steel wire. No issues!

There is plenty of "issues" brought up in thedrambadotcom's forums, specially about the "thinness" of it being prone to cracking! :smt012

One guy looking at the single cab was happy to see it had a (rusty) stock muffler. "...I had one of those Vintage Speed mufflers on my bug. Sounded good, looked good but broke apart after a year.." YMMV

The first exhaust I bought 15 years ago for the 69 was an EMPI. In less than 2 weeks it was covered with very heavy rust.
