Wolfgang's!

Most people say that they ALL and ALWAYS leak! :-s

However, it seems the main reason is not having the "best" seal for them. The seal design is not as good as I think it should be. Much like the "cheap" fixed windshield seals, if they are NOT shaped at the corners, they tend to kink/crack. Here's mine showing the kink at the passenger side lower corner:

Image

Here's a look from the inside:

Now look at the latest install on the same corner:

Look ma, NO kink!

Here's the other one on mine, also kinked:

The one thing I've done and suggest everyone do with theirs, is that once they are done fitting and painting and are good to go, pull the seals and goop the channel up with RTV then reinstall it. Mine only leak a tiny bit at that damn lower corner on the passenger side and it's only because it ended up with a larger than normal gap there.

Are there holes in the floor? If it is just rust then how about wire brush and POR/Masterseries, etc.

Mad skills have you grasshopper!!
My Wolfgang safaris have the kink in the corner and they leak!
I'm going to order some new seals and take my time for the install so they wont leak
or at least only a , tiny bit!!

I ask the same question to every person that has Safaris: "Do they leak?" And the answer always is: "Yes".

The Mrs.: "Safaris would look great on the Single Cab!"
Me: "Yes, but they leak."
The Mrs.: "Can't that be fixed?"
Me: "Apparently not."

One person told me the leaking is not that bad. "You just keep some towels on the parcel shelf to stuff at the base of the window to absorb the rain water."

Someone could make a lot of money if they could design a system that would seal.

Mine leaked on the old bus, but I would tape them closed when it rained which isn't that often here in San Diego. After years of doing this let me recommend using two inch wide electrical tape. Try not to stretch it when applying it. Why electrical? It won't dry out and stick forever to the body and frame and it won't pull the paint off when you remove it.
That's my two cents. Bacteria to our regularly scheduled program.

isn't that how it always works? You retire and you are busier than when you were working.

True that, but with a difference. You are busy with things that are mostly your decision about what to do and when to do it. And you have time to take care of things without scheduling around 8-10 hours a day of "work".

True that! I put in anywhere between 2 to 6 hours a day depending on how I feel about it, the weather and anything else I can think of!

Anyway, the floor has become quite the bish to deal with! This center section was a Royal PITA to remove! #-o

The “perimeter” I had to remove bit by bit. Then, after deciding to install the floor whole, it became obvious that it was NOT going to happen! So ended up slicing it in half.

Here’s the preliminary setup...

Image

On a side note, I needed to remove the old accelerator pedal from the old floor and at first thought to remove the pin to get better access to the base plate which is welded to the floor. Then figured to just drill it out in one piece. Good thing I did!

Image

Image

That pin ain’t coming out now or ever!

After some 13 hours on the floor alone, I'm almost ready to start welding it down. :-/

Most holes "punched", some are drilled then cleaned out for "stick"! ;-)

Enough for today as it's getting way too hot here, but just about ready!

Thanks David!

So, after telling Jonathan (this bus' owner) that the accelerator pedal would be a bish in it's eventual need to be replaced, I decided to just bolt it on instead of welding it. :-k

Image

Welded a couple of old bolts to the base. this way, if and when it fails, it will be a bolt on affair. Easy peasy!

The floor...

This hole is "key", for the hi/low beam switch wires run through it as well as the brake light switch and horn wires. I had to enlarge it some, then slotted to make the floor get to its proper place!

Image

Also, the brake switch and horn wires then go through the floor but the new floor did not have the required hole punched on it. So I'll have to compare it with mine since I already threw away the old floor. 8-[

Here it is all welded down. Now grinding and grinding and grinding and grinding and grinding.... all them darn welds! :-/
