Putting it to work!

Actually, the Plump Truck works just fine. It's the I-beam/hoist combo being put to work here!

Took 3 guys to load this HUGE pallet onto the bed. I'm going to use it as a base for the flooring of the "dirty work" shed in the back yard. So, to unload it with the usual "crew", me, myself & I, using a couple of straps crossing about the center of it, the job was effortless!

Apparently the Plump Truck is such an "early" vintage that it had split bus drums. :-k

I'm guessing this because the dust caps did not fit the disc hubs by quite a lot!!! Went to the vee parts to get some and they did not have any but told me that the book says '68 to '79 are all the same. So I went back and try to pound them in but upon measuring the difference was quite big. Was going to just make my own but didn't have the raw material readily enough, so decided to "cut" into the caps I had. Couldn't use them anyway so if I ended up ruining them, no big loss. :-s

Through my calculations I ended up with about 0.026" worth of skin actually grabbing the hub.

The never ending brake issues!

The old master cylinder had worn out a seal and was leaking right out of the front of it. Tried to get a rebuilt kit but none are available. A "so called" german master is upwards of a coupla hunnert $$$ or some such, so I attempted a "fix". Took it apart and found a bit of pitting inside it right about the front seal area. Took a honer to it and smoothed it out. Also swapped the worn seal with another from the inner area though they are not "exactly" the same. Slapped it all back together and it seemed to work. However, after all that manhandling, the cracked up reservoir started leaking.

After a while, couldn't stand the mess and not feeling all too secure, I bit the bullet and ordered a new master. Pierside Parts had one at $89 (china cheesy) but about the reservoir they said "No one is making those... but we are working on getting it to the market soon!" Well, really? Ok, but EIS.com does have it already for $30 or so. Ordered them in the hope that both parts would fit each other while coming from 2 different sources!?!!?!! [-o<

Got lucky this time!!!! \:D/

The reservoir came in first:

Then the master showed up:

Here's the comp:

And the "issue":

So, I went to swap the progressive back with the Webers... First, I just HAD TO drop the motor to do that since the single carb manifold will not come out easy with the fan shroud on. So I dropped it. Of course once you do that, all kinds of shtuff comes up that needs and should be addressed. Took care of all that, buttoned it all back, and started shoving the motor back in. Dropping a motor is really a piece of cake and on any other vw shoving it in is fairly simple, but in this thing, with the transaxle all loosy goosy it's a RPITA! But in it went finally. Before starting it I even install the apron and bumper. It fire up right quick and idled sweet!

THEN, just when I was ready to drop it off the floor jack, I saw these on the floor!!! :stoptheinsanity:

It was late in the evening already and as much as I tried to install them blind by feel, it was just impossible! Cussing and fighting I just plain gave up slamming shtuff around, shutting down shop! :-x

Pissed to no forkin end, just the thought of having to drop the motor AGAIN just to put these little forkers on was driving me nuts! :smt013

Then, woke up in the middle of the night and a thought came to mind... if I use studs instead of bolts it will surely be easier to feel the spot where they go!?!?! :smt017

Being a work day, later when I got home went right into it! Wasn't quite a piece of cake but was successful at it! At least I didn't have to drop the motor again!
