Brightsidedly looking at it, could be just getting the worst out of the way early and will be smooth sailing for the rest. :-s

Tell me about it!

After coughing up $800 for the transaxle, the $350 for just towing the trailer is overwhelming indeed! This has been the most expensive BBB for me EVER!!!! #-o

I'm so glad I didn't go on that trip, sounds like most of the group ended up being towed home.
I feel for you guys, let me now if there's anything I can help with.

Maybe we can set up the club bus with a three car carrier behind it?

And it isn't over yet!

Yesterday, the Plump Truck hardly made it up the hill. The very last tip of it was crawling on first popping and screaming! By the time to got there, we had taken a few parts of the spare motor to try them on the truck. Then, while I was swaping and dialing the Dormy's motor, Louis was trying to the the Plump Truck "fixed" to make the trip home. Was somewhat succssesful and though seemingly better than before, it was still not quite there. Meanwhile, every step I took on the Dormy presented yet another challenge. We got there at about 1:30 - 2 pm. By the time we finally started heading down was already past 6. Struggling like 2 cripples without a crutch, we made it down the hill but then the Plump Truck decided this was it and totally lost power between Main St & the 125. Yes, at the side of the curved road!!! Drove Louis to my house where his bug was, called triple A, had my girlfriend drive me back to the truck which by then the towtruck driver already had hooked up! Finally closed shop at 10:30pm. This morning I had to drive the Dormy into work. The 1600 is totally gutless when pushing an IRS with tall tires!

Next order of bidness is to drop the Bug's motor and "see what's up". I'm guessing only 2 options. The "good news" (if you can call it that!) would be just a loose flywheel. It's known to happen and I had it happen to me some 20 years ago. The bad news would be a broken crank!

if it is loose flywheel you can redrill 4 new dowel pin holes and remount flywheel. i have the Gene Berg drill fixture to do this and a letter Q cobalt drill. i also have 1/2" or 3/8" drill to do this repair.

Bill, I know the feeling. Back in 1999 I drove ALL the way home from BBB on 3 cylinders.

How about I write "Gene Berg" on it with a felt tip marker? Or better yet, we can have Yogi autograph it with his face.
