Just read these 2 articles provided by aircooled.net and linked to a thread in thedramba. Though I've been doing my own since longer than I can remember, there are some very good pointers here to get the novice to do his own with confidence and without having to guess at it.

Carburators 101: Selecting the Right Carb System

Carburators 102: Basic Jetting Theory and Procedure

I consider these as "must reads" whether you are attempting to do it yourself or have someone else do this for you. If the latter, at least you'll have enough knowledge to tell if the person doing the job for you is going to do it or have done it properly.

I figure this being carb related, it would be best to post it here. Tried taking a picture of the one I made for the club bus but this picture from thedrambadotcom's gallery shows it much better. It is a bowden tube for the accelerator cable between the chassis and the engine. The use of this feature helps in preventing the jerking around of the pedal when trying to cruise at certain slow speeds. The jerking is caused by the engine bouncing up & down and pulling the cable intermitently. :???:

hmmm here I thought it was the pan that was saying it was a beetle. :???: Come to think of it, I guess beetles are not the only cars that get pan off restorations.

Reading the article about jetting, kt states that you should start out with a main jet at 4.1x the venturi which is normally around 140. Is this for a single carb application? If so, what is the norm for dual carbs?

Interesting information for stock carbs.

I am running dual kads on my 1915.
The recommended fuel pressure for kads is 1.5-2.0.
At times I smell fuel and have been wondering if I need to check the fuel pressure??
I probably do!! Hey I have an idea, , why don't I bring it over to Ivan's house and he can help me!!

What do you say Pyro?

Here's an awesome thread on info about the progressive carburetor and how to actually make them work!

How to make a progressive work properly on a VW engine. By john@aircooled.net

It is a long read but the main and most important info is right on the very first post.
