My FF does 75 at 3500, no RGBs. I think they are 1.1:1, so that would make it 3850 for me with RGBs to do 75.

Assuming tires are close.

2/1200 up to may 59 driven 21 teeth/ axle 15 = 1.4 ratio RGB

2/1500 from jan 63 driven 24 teeth /axle 19 = 1.26 ratio RGB

does this help? 2/1200 or 2/1500 means type 2/1200 engine or type 2/1500 engine.

Well, it depends on what your definition of FF is. It's all stock bus gearing but with a 3.88 R&P. I was looking for just a little more speed, not planning on drag racing. 70mph at 3800rpm sounds good to me.

you guys spend too much time coming up with "busted" pictures that when someone posts a tech thingie it goes right over your head. Greg said he thought RGB ratio was 1.1-1 i gave correct RGB ratio info. put down the 30 year old pictures and get back up to speed or whatever blows your skirt up.

Ya - not sure where I heard the 1.1:1 thing. Funny how the RPMs almost worked out though on a bad number LOL

So Ivan had 1.26:1 ratio?

Sheesh!

Get the rough cow hide as apparently your suede isn't tough enough.

Second run report: I shoved a piece of rubber hose over the shiftrod to prevent it from touching metal to metal and readjusted the Scat shifter a bit to make it easyer to get into gear. Drove it in this morning and though it did quiet down some, it still hums too loudly for my taste once it gets up to speed, quite a bit more when down shifting. :???:

I will have to get the T3 swapped for GBs and try it to see if there's a difference inbetween the two. At the same time also get more info plus parts to do the IRS thing. Well, it took me over 2 years to just put the stroker together...

remember when figuring MPH @ RPM you need to take the size of your tires into consideration. smaller tires will yield lower speeds at higher rpm's. the tire should be measured for overall hight in inches.
Let's look at pyrO's comment again.

Quote:
On a side note, this tranny doesn't seem to be a freeway flier as the engine had to spin at 3800rpm to do 70mph. My old tired and ready to blow one did 75mph at that rate.

If Elvis's trans is as described "all stock bus gearing but with a 3.88 R&P." It has the 3:88 R&P it has the proper bus only .82 4th gear and it has 1.26 reduction gears. by doing a little reverse cyphering pyrO's tires are 24.5 inches tall. BUT! If Elvis's trans was built with a Bug 4th gear instead (which seems to be the case sometimes.) and all other ratios are the same then the tires on pyrO's bus are around 27 inches tall.

3:88 x .82 x 1.26 = 4.0 to 1 final drive ratio.
3:88 x .89 x 1.26 = 4.35 to 1 final drive ratio.
4.125 x .82 x 1.26 = 4.26 to 1 final drive ratio.
4.125 x .89 x 1.26 = 4.63 to 1 final drive ratio.
remember the lower the ratio # the taller the gear.

So do tell pyrO how tall are your tires? ;-)

Will do, but not until I get home today and maybe later even as I'm in the process of disassembling the grummy tranny and using the "swing" ring gear in the T3 one. Yes, they are indeed the same.

I'll also try to take pix of the "residue" I found after removing the nose cone!

so just to clarify: you are changing the Ring gear but not the pinion because they have same number of teeth? where is that emoticon of guy eating pop corn when you need it?

you also might consider that your tire size may also be having an effect on your speedo as well. Hudman posted this link on the "spy photos for bill" thread.http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html a very useful link and may help in providing a more accurate assessment of whats going on.

Well, it ain't gonna work.

So I'll just have to bite the bullet and get on with the IRS.

Anyway, here's a pix of what I found inside the nose cone, not to mention the "balls" in that tail bearing look more like rocks!

Hmmm. Nice shavings looks like you went panning for gold and found silver instead. :-k
it's all debris from that rock looking main shaft bearing you described. bummer.
Is that the dormi trans or the type 3 trans?
