Dan, you have a PM. Sorry to hijack the thread. Now back to Ivan's great work in restoring, motor building and documenting.

Now that the motor is finally “in”, I need a vacation! 8-[

Though I may start cutting out the rusted parts in preparation for replacement, we will be taking a long trip up the coast. So the process will take a lot longer than it normally does.

How far north are you going, Big Sur far or Eureka far. We camped at Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park a couple years ago and really enjoyed it.

Vancouver, but that's a topic for another thread. Let's keep this one on point!

A little asbestos anyone? (Actually I hope that isn't a bundle of mesothelioma in the raw.)

I think you need a Wolfgang mid-mount!

I broke a 36 mm socket twice for the back axle nut standing on a breaker bar -- no jumping, no impact driver. I was 170 pounds at the time! The second time I took it back to Sears for the free replacement they accused me of abuse.

So, having done a couple of these already, and realizing how much of pain it is to make fit in one piece, I opted to go a different route and sliced it into 3 parts. The center and the 2 sides. Still a pain as it’s taken 2 days just to fit the center and the driver’s side.

Also opted to graft the ends rather than going all the way and wrapping the edges. That creates more work and extra “finishing”, in my estimation. :-/

Probably all that’s going to be done for a while as we’re planning on heading out this weekend. 8-[
