I am trying to figure out why when I apply the brakes hard my bus pulls violently to the left. I recently adjusted them per the manual. Any input would be appreciated.

Leaks! Brake fluid leaks and/or gear oil leaks. Contrary to popular beliefs, while water will make them slip, brake or gear oil makes them stick more than if they were dry. So, a front or rear drum sticking WILL make the bus pull to one side while braking.

Also, a clogged up rubber line will give the same "feeling", since it is preventing a particular wheel from stopping.

Check for that!

Have you removed the drums yet to see the condition of the shoes.
Like Pyro, said brake fluid more than likely is the culprit and causing them to stick!
Welcome back to the forums Rich. What type of bus do you have?
