Williams have you done a fulltune up on this engine? I mean new plugs, wires, points, valve adjustment, etc? It is always best to do this before looking for more exotic causes of poor running.

Chris, I am down for a day cruise. Let's come up with a plan and post it. It's going to be hot again next weekend so maybe in two weeks?

The guy I am trading with swapped the plugs. I swapped the points and condenser when I had the last no start problem. I have not checked the valves. All things I will do this week when the Dodgers are not playing.

Thanks Dan.

removed the tint off of another window (closet window) and gave her a much needed bath. Maybe I'll call her Julia Roberts since she cleaned up beautifully.

installed a bungee cord so I could drive it to work without holding it in 4th gear today. 48 miles later and she drove nicely.

Start saving for a rebuilt transaxle. It will start popping out even with the bungee. Last time I had that was with the Plump Truck and I stopped driving it because it hurt to be holding the shifter and even then it kept popping out!

Gonna cost you more to have al that junk welded in and have a gear box built vs just having your existing trans done.
Just to be sure, are your front and rear mounts good? Bad mounts will cause it to kick out of gear.

I am not sure if they are or not. I will need to crawl under and have a look.

broke down this morning driving to work at 5am. Thought it was that the valves were all too tight fro some reason. After some time, figured it was the dizzy not seated correctly causing my timing to be way off. Turns out the distributor drive shaft is possibly the problem. The washers that go on the end (crank side) might either be broken or now missing since it looks like the drive shaft has dropped down causing the dizzy to not seat correctly and act as if it was sitting too high and not fully pushed down into the block. So after some tinkering and multiple stops, it looks like removing the spring at the top of the drive shaft (in between the dizzy and drive shaft) allowed the dizzy to sit all the way in and not push the dizzy shaft back up.

I was able to get it home but definitely have to adjust the valves.
