Having the trans rebuilt was the first big repair we did on the '69. It is nice driving without having to hold the shifter in 4th gear.

a costly fix but yes. It drives me crazy that I can't drive without holding it in 4th gear.

Bungee cord.
Many a bus pilot has prolonged the trans rebuild by using a bungee cord to hold the shifter in 4th.
If anything, it allows one to buy time and save money for a rebuild.

Got the new muffler installed along with the apron and rear bumper. Then I moved on to the seat belts for the back seat so my kids can ride in the back.

After market exhausts suck. The heat is not lined up correctly so I will need to work on that now.

As some of you know I broke down coming home from the October club meeting.
Quite a fiasco it was, even got a ride home by the police at 3:30am, you can read about
the adventure on the thread for the club meeting.

Long overdue was needed maintenance on the 1915 engine.
Pulled the engine, re-torqued the heads, the #1-#2 head was loose, #3-#4 not bad.
Genny stand was blowing oil making for a very messy engine compartment, new gaskets and seals
bolted it back on. New plugs as the others have been in for a couple years, they weren't
to bad, I thought they might be a lot worse. Installed a new flywheel seal.
Re-torqued heater tubes to heads, double nutted a couple as this has been a problem in the past.
Replaced the fuel lines to the duel carbs, the fuel lines are mounted on the back of the fan shroud
so replacing them with engine out is much easier. Also replaced the oil sensor, the light has been flickering
and at times staying on, now all is ok. Did other misc items while the engine was out.
Installed the engine, went in fairly easy. In my younger years I would have the engine out about 40 min
with pulling the bumper etc, well now it is about an hour and 30 min.
While hooking the excel cable up it broke, better now than on the road.

I'm really pleased with the outcome, starts right up where before I'm pumping the gas a lot to get it to start.
Drove to the beach and back, 20 mile round trip, parked and put a piece of card board under the engine to check for leaks!
To my surprise and pleasure not a single drop of oil was to fall!!
Needless to say, with the 3 days of working on it I was very satisfied with the results.

Next project, while under the bus I notices the passenger side brake backing plate is wet with brake fluid,
I had to put more fluid on the way home from KQ camp-out. When I do it I will also replace the master cylinder,
It is multi years old (15+), so it's only a matter of time before it goes out.

Anyone want to do a day cruise soon!!

.

As soon as I figure out why mine won't idle, I am down for a cruise.

I went to take the camper in to get it in my name only to find out that it won't idle. Starts and stays running as long as I have it high in the RPMs. Doesn't sound right at high RPMs also. So I went to AAA to get the thing in my name hoping they would just process it and let me go but no. Since out of state they need to check the VIN to make sure it matches.

AAA agent - Is your car outside?
Me - no it is at home in the garage
AAA agent - we cannot complete the transfer until we can validate the VIN on the vehicle
Me - ](*,) ](*,)
Me - OK I will get it running or tow it in soon.
AAA agent - shouldn't take more than 10 minutes to complete the rest.

So I got home and tried to see if there was a vacuum leak. I found nothing visually wrong so next will be to check plugs and what not.

Check that the distributor is set to tic #1 and the wires are in the correct order. You could be 180 * out.

don't think he would be 180 out as he drove it to the KQ camp.
Mine wont even start when it is 180 out.
Carb adjustment?
Timing?
Vacuum leak?
cracks in the vacuum line or cracks or missing vacuum plugs at the carb?

my .02!!
