I replaced my door latch mechanism on passenger side. since i bought it in June 2005 i have had to reach through cargo door to open it using door handle on passenger side. now i can unlock, lock with key. nice to function as it is designed to do. i also made a piece of wood for closet to hatch opening that was never there, but is on original westy stuff. i also cleaned it out for campout and is probably cleaner than it has ever been.

well yesterday I got the float for my carb and got the SC running again. Then I cleared all the crap that the bed had collected since everyone in my house seems to think that all their crap belongs in the back of my SC. :???:

yes. unfortunately it collects crap. God thing is that most of it is trash so it takes no time cleaning it up. It is when my kids and wife leave things in the back that require time to put away.

My addition wasn't nearly as complicated as cleaning out stuff or a carb float. I replaced my two 1157 taillight bulbs with LED Red bulbs. Much brighter taillight and turn signals now. Now the "other guy" can see the truck just a little better now.

where did you get the bulbs and how much? I have thought about getting LEDs for the tail lights since they are so small. I hate the fact that someone might not see them and slam right into my SC.

Bill thanks for starting this thread. There is one over at TS and I find it very interesting and motivating. We've been up to our armpits putting in new floor tile in the kitchen and the bus is screaming for some attention. I better be posting some "what I did" items here really soon or the poor bus won't run at all.

Wash her and take her to Home Depot to get the things you forgot. That should be enough for her to understand that you still love her.

Actually the bus seved as the storage facility for the materials for the job. It was really nice to have everything in one place. And it did make **every** trip to HD and Lowes for all the things we needed/forgot.

They just know it just sits in the garage with a mild threat that you might take it to a VW show. Do you go out to the garage and talk to the SC and give it the same excuses you give us.

boy I should smack you for that. Actually it only collects crap when it sits for more than a week due to it being broken. Other than that, I drive my SC when ever I get the chance.

I bought the LEDs at AutoZone. They were pricey, but I think the added brightness made it worth it (around $16 for the 2 bulbs).

I just might buy a set to see how much brighter they are. $16 for a little added security is worth it to me.

Yesterday I gutted the '59 SO-23 and bought wood to replace the cheap paneling put in by the PO. Gutting it gave me a chance to look at the metal and it is unbelievable. Its almost a shame to cover it up. Everywhere you look there is factory gray primer that looks like it was just shot. Not a speck of rust in sight.
On the double cab I had a blow out on one of my 14 inch rims so I broke down and bought a pair of tires for the correct 15 inch wheels. I almost bought two for the back but then I would have to fix the hacked wheel wells. When I went to jack up the bus to change the tire on the freeway after the blow out I heard a sickening crunching sound. The jack points on both sides are totally rusted out  This leads me more and more to think about leaving the DC "as is" or at least in the foreseeable future as it is looking more and more to be a PITA project extraordinaire.

What are you using as replacements for the panels? Birch?
