When loading pictures into the gallery with the intention to post them in the forums, please make sure to re-size them to be no bigger than 500x500 pixels!!! Keeping them at this size or smaller will make sure the picture is completely visible in the forum without having to scroll right to see the rest of it. Not to mention that it loads faster in a slower dumputer. ;-)

I think our size limits are 800x800 in the gallery. Standard picture size is 640x480 and 800x600. in order to get to 500 pixels you need to crop all pictures before up load. 800x800 gives you the ability to take a portrait or landscape picture 600x800 or 800x600. The problem is people need to compress their images better. We need to update our software running on the server which has controls to only display images the size we choose. Also if you have to scroll side to side or up and down on a 800x800 picture you need to upgrade your aging computer. Wal Mart has computers under $300 that can display these pictures. you would have to be running a 15 year old computer with a monitor 15" or less with a screen resolution of 640x480 to have issues.

FOR PC:
If you right click on your desktop go to properties and settings tab. If you are at 800x600 you are at a really low resolution. I'm on a old computer here at work with a 15" monitor running 1280x1024.

see which pic loads faster:
500x500 size 258k
Image

800x800 size 51k thats almost 5 times smaller

We discussed this during the meeting that there needs to be instructions on how to post photos to the gallery so that people that are still learning this interwebby thing.

So please review and correct if I messed up...

Be sure your photo is no bigger than 1,000,000 bytes in size. No more than 800 wide x 800 high pixels. The image must be in jpg, gif, or png format.

Click on Gallery you wish to upload to. Your Personal gallery link is at the very bottom of the gallery list.
Click on the "Upload" image in the upper left side (currently image link is broken).
Provide a image title and description.
Click on "Browse" to search for the photo to be uploaded.
Click "Open" once the photo is selected.
Click "Submit"

If your image is too big and you do not know how to resize it, PM me.

Here is how to resize the pictures using Paint that comes with Windows.

1. Open "Paint" in the Accessories section pf your Program Menu.
2. Open the image to be resized.
3. From the file menu go to "Image".
4. Choose "Stretch/Skew".
5. For the Stretch section, enter in a number like 90 for both Horizontal and Vertical. This means the image will be 90% of what it was.
6. From the file menu go to "Attributes".
7. Here will tell you how big your file is and the pixel size.
8. repeat the resizing of the picture until the file is within the size limit.

I chose Paint since it is included on every Windows operating system.

Or if you're impatient like I am, load everything in a Photobucket account (free!) and then drag your humongous pictures to any website you choose.

How to post pictures from your SV2 gallery in the forums.

1. Go to the Photo Gallery section under Community.
2. Click on "Your Personal Gallery" at the bottom of the categories section.
3. Click on the image you wish to post in the forums.
4. Under the big image is "Link:" with an URL after it.
5. Highlight the URL and copy it.
6. Go to the Forums and to the thread you wish to post the image in.
7. Click "PostReply" button in the upper top left side.
8. Click the "Img" button above the box you usually type in.
This will put a [img] in the text field.
9. After the [img] tag, paste your URL.
10. Click the same "Img" button.
This will end the tag with a [/img]
11. Click the "Preview" button next to the "Submit" button.
If your image shows as a preview, then you are good to click "Submit"

Note that your URL MUST have a .gif .jpg at the end of it.

How to upload an image as an avatar...

I took Lance's post of
Image

and resized it to be 120x120 pixels using the same technique for resizing pics so you can upload. Once the image is 120x120 and a file size no larger than 73kb do the following to upload the image as your avatar...

1. Go to your "Profile".
2. Go to the bottom of the page to the "Avatar control panel" section.
3. Click on the "Choose File" button.
4. Navigate to where you saved your image and select it.
5. Click the Open button.
6. Click the Submit button.
If your file was accepted, you should see a message stating
"Your profile has been updated"

If not, it will state either your image is to big in pixels or file size.

I have been trying to post a scanned pic. I scan a pic (on my scanner of coarse), once it is on my computer how do I post it on the forums. I haven't been able to upload it to Photo Bucket, do I need to?

How do you guys take an old pic, like a pre-computer day pic, and post it on the forums??

I have been taking a pic of a pic with my digital camera, than uploading to PB... loose a lot of the quality, there has to be a better way!!

I am still learning!!

You can actually attach pictures to any reply/response straight from your computer using the attach function right below the box you use to type in your responses.

Correct ](*,),

I appreciate the fact that you can and will do it for me, however, I still wont be able to do it.

Not all of us are efficient with computers, I'm still a beginner. I'll discuss it tomorrow at the meeting.

it seems we have hit our quota on picture attachments. I have tried to attach pictures to my post (not link them from photobucket) and it tells me that the site has reached it limit.
