Okay, that is the new name for the 63 sub hatch (SO33), Bill and I christened it today....The HATCH.

Today Bill worked on general cleaning of the undercarriage, in order to see what we are working on, and the start of "The List" (parts needed to put The Hatch on the road).

The list is growing.....

We had quite the experience trying to separate the front shift rod from the rear, as the two were "rust welded" together. We had decided to check with BFY to see if they sell the front or rear rod, and just cut them off, but we tried PB Blaster, heat and pipe wrenches, with some luck and paitence, they came apart (RED HOT, but apart none the less).

The adventure to get The Hatch back on the road begins.....

Thanks so much to Bill for his expertise and work, tomorrow, we begin again (and I use "we" loosley since I'll be off to the office most of the day, and Bill will be here working on The Hatch).

I'm excited about driving a bus again.....GOT TO CAMP!!!

Here are some pics of The Hatch during the process. Bill and I are working on brakes, tranny mounts, and shift rod bushings first. Bill also made some new pigtails for the wiring harness.

I'll try and post a couple of pics now and again as the process goes forward.

Hopefully Bill will post some pics too.

Who said anything about paint? :???:

Really, not quite sure yet, it will hit me when it hits me. Kinda like not naming a kid before his personality emerges, I'm not painting this bus until it tells me what color it wants to be....originally it was pearl white, and I'm partial to red and white (wow, surprise), but there are so many cool colors out there....who knows (palm green/sand green is another one of my favorites, although not correct for a 63).

Turkis and blau weiss would be correct for that year, but not for a Westy. Wonder what the other options were for Westys from that year or was it just Pearl White?

63 Year Correct Colors:

Turkis, Mouse Grey, Sealing Wax Red, Blue White, Pearl White, Beige Grey

63 Westy Colors:

Beige Grey/Sealing Wax Red
Blue White/Turkis
Pearl White

Or any color combo of the 63 correct ones above, if special ordered, I believe.

****EDIT*******

I should mention that historically I have not been bounded by orignial colors, maybe colors that harken back to orignial, but......who knows, maybe tan and yellow, or the same swift red and wimbledon white of The Shizz, or two tone primer?

That doesn't give you alot of options I like the beige/red but then again they are all that color I like different and I'm partial to the greens if I had a split I would do it coolrydes colors

All good questions:

1) I'll have to look for the switch, I think it's here somewhere
2) 4 way dash bulb holder -- Currently unknown, I'll have to buy an aftermarket one
3) Ignition switch -- Missing but Dan has one that he will sell me (I've PM'd him, and asked if he can get it to you)

Also, Dan will help me out with a 12V starter (I'll buy the bushing), and an incomplete linkage set for the Kaduds.

6volt trans and 12volt starter adapter bushing.. ignition should be 63 ,but 64-67 can be used if you don't mind more keys than 1 for everything like kermit.

I'll live with multiple keys in order to get a decent affordable ignition switch.

I'll pick up the bushing when I get the brake lines. I'll also have to get two german rear cylinders along with the dual MC. This is starting to add up $$$$$$$

Actually, nothing come to think of it. I keep getting it confused with a Porsche linkage with the drop down arms. The Kadron is just a bar, so it should be complete.
