The Dennis family is looking to make the trip, presuming I can finish up the shift rod installation and a couple of other minor tune up issues that are necessary before making the long drive. The only problem is I don't think I can leave until Thursday because of work.

What other work needs to be done to your bus?

Do you have a CB?

I had some issues with my front brakes a few weeks ago. When I jacked it up, I found the front driver side tire would barely spin and the front passenger side had no resistance at all. I was able to fix it with a quick adjustment of the shoes, but I have a nagging feeling that I should open the drum up and look at everything. I'm off Friday, Saturday Sunday so hopefully I can make time to get it all done this weekend.

Brakes are done. Many thanks to Chris Cross for letting me steal his Saturday. We opened up the front drivers side wheel for what I was hoping would be a quick inspection. Instead we found a wheel cylinder that was stuck in the open position causing the brake pads to where out. A huge chunk of brake pad actually fell right off. Quite a few hours of work later I have all new front brakes. A quick oil change and a little grease for the front end and I will be ready to go.

Alright, we need a bus count for those leaving Thursday the 14th at Dawn's Crack!!! Also a definite time for leaving the Shell gas station at Second St. in El Cajon. We need to determine this so that we can meet Turbo and Beto at the Flying J gas/lunch stop in Ehrenburg. :-k

As per MY usual, please note AND realize the "rules of engagement" when going along with me to Lake Havafew which are as follows:

1. Have your bus in good tune and running order!
2. We leave at the given time to leave!
3. Show up prior to that time!
4. Be ready to depart at that time, meaning already fueled up, coffeed and/or fed!

Issues: We do realize that shtuff happens. However, having your bus in good running order, tuned, not hemorraging oil, and like that, helps tremendously in preventing major catastrophies! I've been there and trust me, it is no fun being the one who holds a caravan up, specially on long assed trips like this one! Also, it helps having a 2-way CB radio to keep in communication with the group in case something happens, as well as having fun while we're at it! Now, in case something does happen, we will assess the "situation" and come up with the quickest solution in order to keep the caravan going. If we can fix the problem realitively quick, we'll do just that. If on the other hand it is a "catastrophic" event, then a secure place must be found for the broken bus and a tow truck called for the rescue. No fair having all involved lose out on the weekend due to one broken bus! :sad:

With that said, the route from San Diego is as follows:

The 8 freeway east to El Centro where we stop for gas. Grab a donut if you want but this is a quick stop!!! {2 hours}
Then we'll take the 111 north to the 78 east
Go through Glamis
The Whoop-dee-doos
The Ziggy-zaggy
Then the 10 east to the Flying J truck stop at Ehrenberg. Here we stop for gas, strech out and have some "brunch"! {2+ hours}
From right there we'll take Aridzona's Hwy 1 which is the Ehrenburg/Poston Hwy north
Go trough Poston and on to Parker where we'll take the 95 all the way to Lake Havafew City. {2+ hours}

Once there we set up camp and start enjoying the weekend! :cool:

Turbo and Beto will be going the following route:

Winchester Road to Beaumont via 79, I10 to 62, to 95, to LHC.

If we want to try and meet up to do the last bit together we should plan to meet in Vidal Junction, that way we can roll into BBBXX as a group. We can stay in touch and try to time it to Vidal Junct.

What time is the San Diego caravan heading out?

As Greg stated, our paths won't meet until either Vidal Jct or Parker depending on if the rest take Rice rd or CA 95 through Blythe.

We move at a leisurely pace, although it's nice to roll in as one unit, I see no need to make it priority.

I would like to roll in together, but agree with Beto that breaking our necks to get there 1/2 hour earlier is unnecessary.

Regardless, camping is cheaper than therapy, and BBBXX will be awesome.

10-4 :neutral:

But FWIW, we do not take CA 95. We depart the People's Republik of Kahlifohnya at Ehrenburg off the I-10. From there we take the road less traveled through Poston and into Parker. We could meet there. Also, whenever we travel together, we do not use warp speed. We keep the pace of the slowest bus. :cool:

Alright, since none of you 3.47 cats that are willing to be caught dead hanging around here have NOT chime in, I will lay down the law! :roll:

We ("I") be departing the Shell station on 2nd Street in the Cajon zone at 5:30 am! That should make for an arrival at Lake Havafew right around noonish, barring some unforeseen issues. Be there or see you at camp! :razz:

Finally just got a reply from London Bridge Bullis about BBB and our concerns. Included here is my reply today. Hoping they do as usual. [-o<

Good morning!

We (SV2s) will be bringing at least 8 buses with a few more crashing our party on Friday. We are trying to get there either at "Dawn's crack" Thursday or on Wednesday night. If we were to get there on Wednesday, what is the "situation" like? I hear rumors and such. :?

Park in line in the street (along the fence) and behave. We have never had any problems but if there are a bunch of load screaming drunks the cops may come and ask you to leave.

DO NOT BLOCK THE ENTRANCE ROAD unless you want to be woken up before the sun shines

Thanks for the direct info! ;-)

As it is right now, our schedule is to leave San Diego on Thursday before "Dawn's Crack" and arriving at Havafew around noonish. Would you guys be so kind again to at least try to set aside our usual spot? 8-[

We will be rolling 7 to 10 buses deep! :cool:
