Sooooo, I know we have a planning meeting coming up this weekend, and I wanted to throw out there that it would be SO COOL if we did a camping voyage (I call it a voyage, because it is a long haul up the 395) to Twin Lakes campground in Bridgeport CA. My family, and my wife's family before that have been camping at this special location (Mono Village at the Upper Twin) for over 50 years. It is most spectacular, from hiking and fishing to campfires, bears, and all kinds of wildlife. I actually popped the question to my wife (20+ years ago) at the campfire at Twin Lakes. There is a general store, and a "cafe" there in case some would rather not cook. There are both full hook ups and dry camping. The bathrooms and showers are good, this is a privately owned campground, it is not too pricey, the best thing is they never turn anyone away. There is a fish/tackle shop, you can rent boats to fish the lake, it is simply amazing.

Okay, it is out there, I want to go, does anybody else want to make the 400 mile trip?

Sounds epic! Like the sojourns of SV2s' days gone by (Yosemite, Red Barn, etc...)

A 400 mile trip is just "that much" more than going to Lake Havafew. Nothing to it! I've taken a 1000 miles weekend trip to Phoenix and just to get to the Red Barn we usta take 9 hours. :-"

What I do liked is this: "privately owned campground"!!!! If we can get whatever many spots together next to each other, I'm definitely game for it! That was my main issue with Yose Mite and the like. No fun when we go as a group yet camp miles apart!

However, you DO know that by bringing this up YOU are in charge of it now, right? :smt045

I am ready willing and able to take on this one. Camping together is very easy as the sites are only LOOSELY marked, and we have had 40 people camp together in RV's, Trailers, Tents and open air before (Suzie's family reunion back in the 90's). The place is amazing, and you really need a long time there to enjoy it, I would expect a minimum of 4 days, we usually go for a week to two weeks. The fact that there are so many amenities makes it awesome.

I would expect a commitment from at least 5 busses, and hopefully more before we "green light" this one, do we think we could get that?

I should have he bus back on the road by then and this would be a good test for the new engine. If my schedule allows, we are seriously considering this one.

This note is interesting! :-k

Numerous non-native insects and diseases can kill large numbers of trees as they are transported long distances via firewood. Once transported to new areas, these insects and diseases become established and kill trees. In our efforts to help stop the spread of invasive pests and diseases, we are requiring that ALL guests leave their firewood at home and "buy it where you burn it." Firewood up there is plentiful and not very expensive, we buy it nightly right at the gate and bring it up to camp. Nice not to have to haul a bunch o wood for 12 hours!!!

my thought is no wood to haul up there means more room for other things like "refreshments"!! :corona:

Okay, so I found out tonight that my son is off of football from July 17 through August 18. So anytime between those dates is when we would like to go to Twin Lakes.

Anybody in? Anybody got schedule conflicts with these dates?

CPO_05 is Dave and Charity. They were the couple sitting to the right of me at the planning meeting.

As for me... I don't make it to events. I just organize them.  And no way am I making that long of a drive in my bus. I know it will not make it.

I'm brave enough, but don't know my schedule that far out. There are rumors of a work trip to Bremerton, WA for June, July and August to work on the USS Stennis. Also rumors of a trip to Italy or Croatia or wherever the shipyard that gets the work actually is. That could happen sometime between July and October, having been pushed back from last year. So put me down as a "Would like to but will probably not be in town at that time." :???:
