Who is interested in camping the first part of November?
I'm thinking Nov. 5-7 at William Heise park.

Partial hook-up sites are $24 per night and could be split with 2 Bus's.
Sites 1-20 are partial hook-up.

Partial hookups means electrical & water? For those lovely little space heaters...

Looks like fun.

William Heise Park is a nice park. Been there many times, the first time a few years ago in the middle of November,
saw a lot of wild turkeys and other wildlife, nice easy/moderate hiking, it WAS cold at night low/mid 40s.
Can't commit now...but will go if time permits.

Would we be having the SD Chapter meeting at the campgroud?

I'm putting it on the family calendar! Haven't been here since I was a kid. Great idea!

OK I just looked at my calendar and noticed that I have a Cub Scout event (Space Derby) on Sunday. So I should be going but will be leaving early to ensure enough time to get home, shower and grab the family to attend the event.

NOTE ------ the camping club event is October 8-10th NOT November.

You have some type of time-warp-continuum? Last I looked, it's not Nov. 5th...

I went to William Heise Park on Sat. around noon, saw William and kids, they went hiking most of my stay, I visited with Russell, Kari and pooch for a while 3-4 hrs, had a couple brewskies a sandwich my wife sent with me then headed back home. YES i drove my bus!! The cruse up was nice, duh I was in the bus, the weather couldn't have been better!

So, the camping suggestion for November that ended up happening in October ended up being a campout after all! Perfect weekend for the outdoors!

yes Sue. The thread date never got changed so which is probably why no one else showed. My kids acted like squirrels all weekend by gathering eggcorns. More to come later about our trip. It was good to see Russell and Kari, John and family, and Chris and his bus

OK so driving up there I did not think I was going to see anyone since no one responded if they were going or not. I figured if I saw someone from the club great, if not it will be a nice weekend with my kids. Well it turned out to be both. I pulled into the camping area and saw Russell and Kari. So I was pleased to see them. Russell helped with my tent and helped me move my tent to the fire ring only to have my son worry about animals in the area that night which made me move the tent up by the car. My kids then began their quest to find EVERY eggcorn in the area and put them in a pile at our camp site hoping to see some animal come get the eggcorns. They never did see anything. We sat and chatted with Russell by the fire, and had smore's. The kids demanded to take hikes so I did. The first hike we went on we saw deer. The second "hike" was a stroll around the camp ground to pick out the good site to come back to. On that hike we saw wild turkeys. The third hike all we saw was birds (crows and hawks) but all in all, my kids had a GREAT time which is all that matters to me. John, Russell, Chris and I all talked about what we could do to try to get more members active. This camp ground is awesome and has many things to do for the whole family. The caravan camping area is a perfect area for the club to camp as it has a huge fire pit and picnic area. It also has a play ground for the kids close by.

Saturday night the San Diego Astrology Association showed up with their telescopes for the entire camp ground to see the stars. My kids loved seeing the stars including Jupiter and it's 4 moons. They also saw parts of the Milky Way and satellites flying by. I would highly suggest this camp ground for future club camp outs.

Did you get contact info for the Astrology Association? It would be cool to coordinate something like that for the next campout up there. Did they have one of them newfangled computerized telescopes that would automatically find stuff to look at?

There was 3 different telescopes. The first one was kind of the standard where they have to manually move it but it was great. The second one was the auto motorized telescope. He would punch in M22 and the telescope would move AND follow it. The third was a very basic non high powered primitive telescope which is the one we used to see Jupiter on. I did not get their information but remembered their name of their group. Here is their web site...

FYI though... these are the guys that pray for San Diego to have a marine layer as it helps in cutting down the glow from the city. I don't like that.
