I was thinking of getting some bonfire wood and heading down to Fiesta Island. Anyone interested? Not sure when though. Have to look at the calendar.

Sounds good to us, but why don't we move this topic to "Club Events" or "Club Chat"? Might get more interest.

Does or can someone down south check to see where we can have a bonfire? I can get plenty of wood to burn, I just would like to know where I can burn it. There are pits up here in Oceanside but I have a feeling I will be the only one there. I would prefer to drive down closer to the rest of the group.

Hmmm maybe the OC guys (and gals) would like a bonfire? Doheny?

City is in the process (or has already completed) removing all fire pits from City beaches, which includes Fiesta Island. One site I saw indicated that you can have "fires" in a barbecue with legs that are elevated off the sand. Maybe you can use of of the portable fire pits?
I will try to call someone in City Govt and get a clarification on this. Might have an answer tonight.

Just spoke to a Sgt. Stroebel with the SD City Lifeguards. The law is that fires are only allowed in City-provided fire rings. The fire rings are gone. There was a provision that allowed fires in bbq's with raised legs. Officers were allowed to use their discretion about citing people making fires in bbqs. With the removal of the City-provided rings, they no longer have the discretion.
So no beach fires and no alcohol on City beaches. This includes Fiesta Island.
Boo.

Anyone up for a cruise to north county for a bonfire? Maybe even South OC for one?

OK so I found that Oceanside has fire pits still. Can someone tell me if Shelter Island is a city or state owned beach?

I would like to have a place where we can park close since most of the wood will be sitting in the SC.

I can check on Shelter Island tomorrow. One thing I know for sure is that parking there is usually well used, as in there's always quite a number of vehicles around. Also not much of a "beach" area to speak of and if there's any rings left I'm sure you could count them in one hand. :???:

you got a point Ivan but the last time I was there we got parking and a fire pit with no problems.

Oceanside will cost everyone $5 each to park but there is a huge beach area on one side and the harbor on the other side. The benefit of the Oceanside location is that some of you can camp there and the OC people can come down too.

So after I get all the wood ready, I will pick a weekend and sent out the invite.

Shelter Island is owned/manged by the Port District.

Is it possible to find out if the pits are still there? I like that place since it has a kids play area. Plus with a little walk you can go fishing off the pier or watch people launch their boats.

Also it is closer to all the SD people.

I might just hold it up here in Oceanside so the OC people could participate.

Too short of a notice for this OC BUS GRL. How 'bout a weekend in the future when there's no chance of rain?

I wasn't planning on having it this weekend. My weekend is booked. I also still do not have the fire wood.

so you are in as long as I let you know a head of time like 1 to 2 weeks ahead of time?

I'm in but prefer summer bonfires since you're kind of asking.
We're entering rain season and cold-on-the-beach season. Are you in a hurry to off your wood or just to have a bonfire that PyrOman doesn't initiate?

if you remember I mentioned this last summer and never followed through with it. I now have a huge amount of fire wood to burn and thought that it would be a good idea to get this going while we don't have to fight for a fire pit. I might hold off until the summer then again I might have another one this summer.
