Southland Drivers: you're not alone in your insanity, others too from your hood are driving north for the most adventurous secondary back road/dirt road Split-Window-Only driving event in the world. Depart the boring confines of relative home-town safety and wager your mechanical savvy, driving skill, and ability to survive in lands where, quite conceivably, you could die of hypothermia, bear attack, drowning, fire or Bigfoot abduction. That's what we're talking about! SST 2008 is two weeks AFTER BBB. Come on, get a crazy co-pilot to split logistics with, and pull it together! You've got lot's of time to plan.

Come on!

Overloads of info can be found on thesamba shasta forum in camping and events, or just go directly for the videos, pictures etc to: www.shastasnowtrip.com

Please ask your bus just how much it wants to go and JOIN US! Cheers,

Brian

We're 1.5 months away from trip time, if there's anyone secretly harboring an escape to Northern California for this, it's time to start planning. Jon Robere is yet again driving up from San Diego, BigbusMike from New Mexico, three busses from Arizona, four from Idaho, one from Mossouri, one from Utah... got three flolks flying in from the north of Ireland... looking like at least 20 split window buses this year and it's just going to get bigger and bigger. The Bulletbus is going too.

I'm posting here because I know a number of you guys are coocoo enough to put a team together and hit it. From San Diego, it is a long way, but hey, you only live once.

Taylor Nelson (Norcal Riviera) is going this year too.

Come on!

Brian

This is one of those trips I am really looking forward to doing someday when the kids are older. I just don't think my 5 and 8 year-olds are up for it. By the way, has anyone ever brought young kids along on a Mount Shasta trip? If so, how did it go?

Madmen! Glad you guys are alive down there... Yeah, I know, it's kinda' cold if you're heat ain't working, but that's why we wanted Pyro to come, he'd give the less-prepared more chance for survival! Yes, Taylor (again) is claiming (actually planning) to go this year, and in his corner the fact he's got two veteran SST drivers going shotgun with him, so I actually believe we're going to rid him of that very sad record of pathetic no-shows. It's been a high subject of posts on our shastasnowtrip@yahoogroups forum. He's definately not immune to taking crap from us either, really amazing record of no shows, but super nice guy (and smart).

But yes, adventure is the name of the game here. Curious drivers needn't over-do the preparations with the bus, just know your engine, operate it at 75% or less there and back and you should be fine... in your corner are the lower than normal Socal temps. Have working heater boxes, warm clothes, full tool box, snow chains, spare gas, and whatever you like to have fun with on your long adventures: ice fishing gear, snow toys, minor camping gear. The AAA card and credit card make nice insurance policies for the wallet, I don't leave home without them.

Kids on the other hand, are not normally on the trip, though Britt Granis did bring his daughter one year. There's something of a very loose party atmosphere continually throughout the weekend, and while kids certainly could go, we all might have to "act" more like adults, with them along... they have no idea, we all really just want to be their age again, it's funny. Bring em' if you'd like; I think Damon might be bringing his daughter.

Single ports are more reliable than blown motors, bring it on, Jon Robere out of San Diego is running Single Port equipment. Find a dozen SST drivers at BBB and hit us with any questions. In the mean time,

hit:

shastasnowtrip.com
shastasnowtrip on Yahoo Groups
8th Annual Shasta Snow Trip thread in thesamba's Camping/Events

Send just ONE driver from SV2s to recon the event and I guarantee more will come next year. Still a month and a half away to plan... January 31st... who's it gonna' be?

Brian

I wish I could go. Too bad I work for a living. I'd be like Greg (aka: campingbox) if I was rich.

Come on, three weeks to go! Send someone from SV2s, if for anything else, just to verify that Taylor indeed left his neighborhood for once!

Three weeks to go!

Totally rad. With all the ratty BOOTIE buses in our club we could rule that event. I have a double cab that would fit right in. If it wasn't about eight hours out of my comfort zone I'd be on that.
