It was nice to see their enthusiasm on reviving the show, especially Johnny. I'm sure they'll do a great job and would love to help out.

Are they going back to the original bus only format or all VWs?

We’re talking about the Familienfest. I don’t think it was ever ONLY about buses. :-k

If the show can be revived that is a good thing.

Reality check time...SV2's involvement in FF and Bob Baker both died for a number of reasons.

First due to lack of volunteers (staff) to make it happen. Back then we had what...30-35 active or reliable members? And now?

The landscape has changed for shows. The requirements (insurance, permits, facility fees) have all increased. Why go to all the work when the result to the club (or the charitable organization that benefits) are so minimal? A guy I recently met said his 50s/60s American Hot Rod group looked into starting a show at Deer Park. The venue is great but the cost was too high for them.

The final two Bob Baker shows I was involved in were the victims of circumstance. One year it rained in LA and Orange County. (Not in San Diego, but LA is where a lot of people were coming from..). Entries dropped by about 30%. Thee next year one of the big LA events was rescheduled to the same weekend as BB. Ouch. When your gross revenues are chopped 1/3 it makes the money issue very difficult.

The South Bay SD Air Cooled (not P.A.'s group) have recently put on a couple of shows at Southwestern College. I did not attend but heard that the shows were successful. That group does have a lot of connections to the Tijuana VW scene so that probably helped.

My big point is: be realistic.

All good points Larry and pretty sure the reasons you listed are why SV2s has not put on another show.
Keep in mind that the Familienfest (FF) show being discussed is not being put on by SV2s!
At the meeting John and his son Jonny just wanted to make sure that SV2s didn't mind
if they started a FF show back under Jonny's new clubs name "Mission Avenue Cruisers" (MAC).
MAC is a new VW club with a lot of energetic young blood, as well as a person that knows
and understands what it takes to put on a car show.
The responsibility and pressure for a successful show is not on SV2s.
Those in the club that want to help are more than welcome to do so.
I do wish MAC success as a club and their effort to revive FF!!
I will support them where I can!!

Wasnt it called Familenfest back when SOTO did it at Deer Park?
Anyway, hope they are able to pull it off. It's a super nice venue. I will be there, maybe in a bug.

I’m fairly certain that the Familienfest was an original Strictly Vintage 2s show. Not a Some Other Type Organization deal. :yuck:

You would know. I guess SOTO just called it a SOTO Meet?
