Yes, very rare. Designed to be a "pop top" on split buses or just to ride on top of the roof. Nice to have a boat when you get there without having to tow it.

Years ago someone on the Samba was trying to sell modern repos.

It thought I heard that too. Did he actually ever produce them? If so what did they costs? I think I also read that it was a San Diego based company that Produced the originals.

I do not remember if new ones were ever made and/or sold.
I also seem to remember the SD based manufacturer....Fiber ______ something?

(BTW thanks for noting that something I remembered actually might have happened. The memory is getting more and more unreliable.)
